On December 28, at the 2018 Plenary Meeting of the Chinese Olympic Committee, the Chinese Olympic Committee was entrusted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Gou Zhongwen, Director of General Admin istration of Sport of China and President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, presented the 2018 IOC “Olympism in Action” trophy for Shougang Group. Liang Zongping, Member of Standing Committee of the Group Party Committee and President of the Trade Union, took the prize on behalf of Shougang Group. The meeting was presided over by Li Yingchuan, Deputy Director of General Administration of Sport of China.

Li Yingchuan pointed out that Shougang Group will take Beijing’s hosting of the 2008 Olympic Games and the 2022 Winter Olympics as an opportunity to comprehensively promote the upgrading of the industrial structure of the Shougang Park. It will not only provide office space for Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee to hold the Beijing Winter Olympics freestyle skiing and ski jumping platform competition, but also become the training base for China’s winter events national team. We believe that the transformation of Shougang has exemplary significance both from the perspective of sustainable development and from the perspective of promoting sports. As the Chinese Olympic Committee applied to the IOC, it is decided to award this year’s “Olympism in Action” trophy to Shougang Group.

The IOC has established its annual trophy since 1985, with a different theme each year so that the IOC awards organizations or individuals with outstanding contributions. The theme of the 2018 IOC trophy is “Olympism in Action”, which is used to reward organizations, individuals or programs that support sports in promoting sports activities, promoting development through sport and sustainable development and other aspects.

Shougang Group is the only unit recommended by the Chinese Olympic Committee to the IOC this year.
