The most beautiful days of April call for a visit to Shougang Park. Recently, the Youth League Committee of Shougang Group and the Youth League Committee of Beijing Dance Academy jointly organized exchange activities, including a dance flash mob, at Shougang Park. The Chinese classical dance pieces Xiang He Ge (Harmonic Ballad) and Zan Hua Yi Juan (A Scroll of Hairpin Flowers) captured the essence of Chinese romance in spring, staging a youthful rendezvous in the most picturesque Shougang Park, demonstrating the magical collision of hard industrial style with graceful and gentle dances.
Ascending to great heights and standing amid the clouds with ancient rhythms lingering in the ear, the performers will see the industrial heritage below spreading out in full view. Dance movements unfold more gracefully in the wind atop the furnace, adding a touch of poetry to the blast furnace. Between the water’s edges, Xiuchi Lake lay picturesque. The majestic blast furnace was reflected in the water’s surface, while on the shore, young ladies in gorgeous costumes danced, blending into the painting-like landscape and bringing the dance to life within the scene.
During the activity, Han Linqi, Secretary of the Youth League Committee and Deputy Director of the Party Committee’s Student Affairs Department at Beijing Dance Academy, expressed that bringing traditional cultural dance to Shougang Park contributes to a wonderful “collision”. She stated: “We are very grateful to Shougang Group for providing students with a valuable platform for social practice. The students thus have good opportunities to step out of the campus and gained sound awareness of the society, which acts as a vivid ‘Enlarged Class of Ideological and Political Education’ for them here”.
Feng Xintong, one of participating students, said: “We hope to make everyone fall in love with Shougang and rediscover these distinctive landscapes that possess both a sense of history and artistry, through combining this traditional Chinese classical dance piece with diversified cultural charm of Shougang Park”.
Liu Shuhan, who visited Shougang Park for the first time, expressed: “As an art park featuring vitality and warmth, Shougang Park is home to numerous distinctive industrial buildings and also witnessed many highlight moments of Winter Olympic athletes. In the future, I will do my part to the cultural dissemination of Shougang Park as a young Chinese classical dancer”.
It is understood that this activity functions as an innovative practice in deepening collaboration between the Youth League Committees of Shougang Group and Beijing Dance Academy. Leveraging the carrier of “industrial scenery + dance art”, the activity captured the unique charm of Shougang Park’s transformation and development through the lens, also showcasing the vigorousness of the younger generation in cross-border integration and collaborative innovation. In the future, the Youth League Committee of Shougang Group will continue to figure out ways for cultural co-construction, thus contributing youthful strength to building a new landmark for the capital’s urban renewal in the new era.
