Shougang Zhixin and Xiaomi Auto Jointly Win the “Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Collaborative Breakthrough Innovation Award”

The “Xiaomi Auto and Shougang Zhixin Joint R&D Project for Drive Motor Silicon Steel” was honored with the “Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Collaborative Breakthrough Innovation Award” recently at the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Intelligent Connected New Energy Vehicle Theme Matchmaking Event and Ecological Port Investment Promotion Conference, setting a benchmark for technological synergy and collaborative innovation across the industrial chain. Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi Group, presented the award.

Shougang Zhixin and Xiaomi Auto leveraged their joint technology R&D laboratory to pursue cutting-edge goals: high magnetic induction, low iron loss, and ultra-high strength. And the two partners carried out full-chain collaborative innovation spanning material design, process optimization, and industrial application, successfully developing 960MPa ultra-high-strength electrical steel—far exceeding the strength of mainstream electrical steel in today’s NEVs, which thus constitutes the core technology of the award-winning project. This breakthrough strongly empowered Xiaomi’s HyperEngine V8S to shatter industry limits at an ultra-high speed of 27,200 rpm, injecting fresh momentum into the NEV industry.

The award granting not only recognizes Shougang Zhixin’s technological innovation and EVI service capabilities, but also affirms the deep integration and key technological breakthroughs between material suppliers and automakers. In this way, a strong industry benchmark for collaborative innovation among upstream and downstream enterprises in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has been set.

In recent years, targeting the demand for higher power density and efficiency in NEV motors, Shougang Zhixin has made a series of key breakthroughs in high-strength, low-iron-loss electrical steel. Building on its technological leading position and innovation advantages, the company has been deepening its “Product + Service” strategy to tackle industry bottlenecks. It adopted an EVI (Early Vendor Involvement) model to facilitate early technical coordination with customers, deliver customized material solutions, and sharpen its response to personalized demands and product adaptation. In doing so, it reliably converts technological leadership into service advantages and market competitiveness.

Through deeply integrating into the industrial development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Shougang Zhixin adheres to its positioning of “high-end, high-efficiency, green and low-carbon”. After more than a decade of dedicated R&D and industrialization, it has built a portfolio of over 100 high-end products covering premium home appliances, NEVs, UHV power transmission and distribution, and humanoid robots—16 of which are global debuts. Today, Shougang’s NEV electrical steel supplies all major global NEV makers; one in every three NEVs in China carries a “Shougang Core”. Shougang’s orientation on electrical steels contributes to its products covering the full scope of UHV DC and AC power transmission. Its ultra-thin products have been applied in numerous national key projects, providing core material support for national economy and people’s livelihood, energy security, and the national goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
