SHOUGANG HIERRO PERÚ S.A.A

With the Spanish name “SHOUGANG HIERRO PERÚ S.A.A”, Shougang Hierro Peru is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shougang headquartered in Lima, Peru. In December 1992, Shougang purchased 98.52% of the shares of Hierro Peru and the permanent mining rights, exploration rights and management rights of its 670.7 km2 mining area.

Shougang Hierro Peru’s mining area is located in Marcona District of Nazca Province, Ica Region, more than 520 km southeast of Lima. The highway in the mining area is connected with the Pan-American Highway and leads to the capital Lima and other regions of Peru. Port Saint Nicholas in the mining area is not silted or frozen throughout the year, making it an excellent natural harbor for navigation worldwide. The company’s own small passenger airplane can take off and land directly at the naval airport in the mining area. The company has formed a 3D transportation network of land, sea and air, and enjoys very convenient transportation conditions.

At present, there are about 2.2 billion tons of proven iron ore reserves in the mining area. In addition, there are many kinds of metal ore such as copper, cobalt, lead and zinc, and other rich nonmetallic mineral resources such as limestone, marble, dolomite and bentonite. There are four main production processes at Shougang Hierro Peru: mining, beneficiation, pelletizing and transshipment. The final products are blast furnace pellets, direct reduction pellets, fine powder, coarse fine powder and coarse particle ore. These products are sold to America, Asia and other countries and regions. China is the main market for Hierro Peru’s products, with a sales volume accounting for 90% of the total sales volume. Meanwhile, the company has a power plant with a total installed capacity of 68 MW and a deep-water wharf where 200,000-ton ships can be docked.

On July 31st, 2018, Shougang Hierro Peru smoothly completed the 10-million-ton Concentrate Expansion Project. After the new concentration plant is put into production, the company’s annual production capacity will exceed 20 million tons, reaching the first-class level globally and becoming an important support point for Shougang’s overseas development strategy.

The seawater desalination plant was built simultaneously with the new concentration plant. With a daily freshwater output of 20,000 m3, the project was independently designed and manufactured by Shougang using modular integration. As the largest seawater desalination plant in Peru, it not only improves the quality of the concentrate products of the new concentration plant, but also provides an effective solution for local desalination water supply.

Shougang Hierro Peru has been operating in Peru for many years. Its annual output of ore has increased from fewer than 3 million tons in 1992 to nearly 20 million tons at present. It has achieved good benefits and has become one of the most important pillar industries of the Shougang Group. More importantly, it has accumulated valuable experience for Chinese-invested enterprises to go abroad and advance the “Belt and Road” initiative. It has made important contributions to promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and Peru in various fields.

Adhering to the principle of “quality first and reputation first”, Shougang Hierro Peru wholeheartedly provides its customers at home and abroad with first-class products and high-quality services. The company seeks to develop economic, trade and cooperative relations with customers at home and overseas based on reciprocity and mutual benefits.
