Beijing––On April 16, a delegation of the Vietnamese Youth “Red Study Tour” to China visited Shougang for an on-site inspection. Attendees included Nguyen Tuong Lam, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Youth Federation; Hu Baijing, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China; and Zeng Li, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Trade Union of Shougang Group.

The “Red Study Tour” was jointly initiated by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of the PRC, and To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, during President Xi’s visit to Vietnam in April 2025. It aims to guide the youth of both countries to follow the revolutionary footsteps of older-generation leaders, explore the red gene of China-Vietnam friendship, and pool youthful strength for the socialist causes of both nations and for building a strategically significant China-Vietnam community with a shared future.

The delegation toured the Shougang Tao Building, Blast Furnace No.1-SoReal Science Fiction Paradise in Shougang Park, and the Big Air Shougang. They experienced up close the transformative evolution of the century-old Shougang and appreciated the high-quality development of this new landmark of the capital city revitalization in the new era.

Founded in 1919, Shougang is both a witness and a participant in the development of China’s steel industry. Embodied with profound historical and cultural heritage and national spirit, its journey epitomizes the evolution of China’s steel sector. At the Shougang Tao Building exhibition hall, the delegation listened attentively to briefings and viewed videos, photos and exhibits, gaining a comprehensive understanding of Shougang’s century-long endeavor, from national salvation through steel, through reform and restructuring, to high-quality development. They directly experienced China’s achievements in industrial development and scientific and technological innovation.

At Blast Furnace No.1-SoReal Science Fiction Paradise, the delegation immersed themselves in the integration of technology and industrial heritage, witnessing how a century-old industrial landmark has been reinvented as a new sci-fi cultural and tourism destination.

The Shougang Big Air is the world’s first Winter Olympic venue transformed from industrial heritage. Embodying a harmonious blend of traditional Chinese culture, industrial legacy and Olympic spirit, it has become a signature symbol of “cultural revitalization” at Shougang Park. The delegation ascended the “Snow Apsaras” Big Air Shougang, overlooking the unique skyline where industrial relics and Winter Olympic venues complement one another. They praised its exquisite design and imposing presence, noting the perfect integration of industrial heritage with Olympic events and modern sports, a model for the sustainable reuse of Beijing’s Winter Olympic legacy.

The “Remain True to Our Original Aspiration” Study Camp, part of the Vietnamese Youth “Red Study Tour” to China, is hosted by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China in Beijing and Guangzhou from April 11 to 18, 2026. It brings together 200 outstanding young representatives from across Vietnam to study in China, carry forward the China-Vietnam friendship, and explore the red gene of bilateral relations.
