Shougang Jingtang United Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (Shougang Jingtang) recently delivered ultra-high-strength marine engineering steel for a 5,000-ton fixed-boom crane vessel project undertaken by Drydocks World, Dubai. Once completed, the vessel will become the largest of its kind in the Persian Gulf and African regions, significantly boosting the area's heavy-lift capabilities. This achievement represents a significant step forward for Shougang Jingtang in the offshore engineering equipment sector.

The supplied steel is for the main crane, the primary lifting equipment for Drydocks World's 5,000-ton fixed-boom crane vessel. This crane features a main hook with a lifting capacity of 5,000 tons and a lifting height of 120 meters, complemented by an auxiliary hook capable of lifting 600 tons at a height of 180 meters. Equipped with a mooring positioning system, the vessel is designed for a wide range of operations, including offshore module installation, offshore wind turbine installation, bridge hoisting, and large-scale vessel assembly.

This supply was carried out under the Early Vendor Involvement (EVI) service model. Responding to specific client requirements, Shougang Jingtang, in collaboration with the Research Institute of Technology, delivered an integrated solution through technological innovation—reducing the structural weight of offshore engineering projects while enhancing overall structural safety. The ABS/EQ70 ultra-high-strength steel for marine engineering produced this time features an ultra-thick and wide plate dimension, breaking through key technical challenges in achieving a strength-toughness balance and internal quality for high-strength, thick steel plates. With a maximum thickness of 130 mm, it marks a new milestone in the supply capabilities of ultra-high-strength steel for marine engineering.

During the process, the Manufacturing Department, Medium and Heavy Plate Business Division, Steel Rolling Operation Department, Quality Inspection and Supervision Department, Sales Management Department, and Technical Center of Shougang Jingtang collaborated closely with the Research Institute of Technology of Shougang Group and the Marketing Center of Beijing Shougang Co., Ltd. In response to the specific size and specification requirements of the order, the teams optimized the slab design and rolling procedures. Additionally, tailored rolling and heat treatment processes were optimized to meet the product's ultra-thick and extra-wide specifications, ensuring excellent strength and toughness. As a result, the final product met all user and standard requirements in terms of dimensions, performance, and surface quality, delivering a full-process premium service from contract execution to product delivery. The rapid fulfillment of this order underscores Shougang Jingtang's ability to swiftly respond to customer needs, as well as its strengths in intelligent manufacturing and precise, timely delivery.

Currently, Shougang Jingtang's medium and heavy plates have been certified by nine major classification societies - ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, KR, LR, NK, RINA, and RS. The plates reach a maximum strength grade of 690 MPa and a quality grade of F, with available thicknesses up to 130 mm. Delivery conditions cover controlled rolling, normalized rolling, normalizing, Thermo-Mechanical Control Process (TMCP), and quenching & tempering. In recent years, Shougang's medium and heavy plate shipbuilding steels have been used in major engineering projects such as Asia's largest deep-sea intelligent cage "Jinghai 001", the region's first offshore wind power operation and maintenance motherships "Zhizhen" and "Zhicheng," and Asia's largest self-propelled cutter suction dredger "Tian Kun Hao". This contract signifies another breakthrough following the successful certification of Shougang Jingtang's medium and heavy plate production line under the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) marine steel standards. This achievement enhances Shougang Jingtang's ability to secure orders for marine engineering steel products and plays a crucial role in expanding the variety of wide and thick plates, as well as exploring new avenues for profit growth.
