High-grade acid-resistant pipeline steel produced by Shougang Jingtang was recently supplied to a major onshore oilfield project in Abu Dhabi. This achievement marks another significant breakthrough for Shougang pipeline steel in the Middle East's high-end energy infrastructure sector.

The project is situated in a region with complex climatic conditions characterized by significant diurnal temperature variations between day and night, and the transported medium contains acidic substances. These factors impose stringent demands on the pipeline steel's corrosion resistance, low-temperature toughness, and weldability. Following multiple rounds of technical evaluation, Shougang Jingtang distinguished itself in the bidding process with its outstanding acid-resistant pipeline steel performance and tailored service solutions, securing its selection as the project's supplier.

Acid-resistant pipeline steel is a premium product developed by Shougang specifically for deployment in highly corrosive environments. Its core advantages are an optimal balance of high strength and toughness, providing excellent resistance to high pressure and cracking - making it well-suited for complex geological conditions. The product significantly mitigates the risk of corrosion from acidic media and is engineered to withstand the extreme temperature fluctuations characteristic of desert regions. To meet the project's stringent requirements, a collaborative effort was undertaken by several Shougang Jingtang departments, including Manufacturing, the Medium and Heavy Plate Business Division, Steel Rolling Operations, Quality Inspection and Supervision, Sales Management, and the Technical Center. They worked in close collaboration with Shougang Group's Research Institute of Technology, the Marketing Center of Beijing Shougang Co., Ltd., and China Shougang International Trade & Engineering Corporation. Collectively, this team tackled key technical challenges and made breakthroughs by optimizing the smelting process to enhance molten steel purity, adjusting casting parameters to ensure the internal uniformity of the plates, and refining heating and rolling processes to improve the pipeline's overall safety performance.

For this collaboration, Shougang adopted the Early Vendor Involvement (EVI) service model, working closely with the client and pipe manufacturing companies from the initial design phase to provide comprehensive technical support throughout the full lifecycle. Throughout the production and supply assurance stages, the dedicated R&D team optimized alloy composition ratios to enhance the material's fatigue resistance. Utilizing an intelligent management system, the team monitored every stage of steelmaking, rolling, and inspection in real time. This ensured consistent product performance stability and delivered physical quality that significantly surpass industry standards.

The successful completion and delivery of this project represent a significant milestone in Shougang's expansion into high-end international markets. Shougang is now one of the select few companies in the Middle East capable of supplying a full range of acid-resistant pipeline steel, further increasing its share in overseas markets.

Shougang's medium and heavy plate pipeline steel product line now offers complete coverage from Grade B to X100, with large-scale and stable supply capabilities demonstrated for grades X80 and below. Available product types include steel for pipeline transmission lines, anti-deformation steel, HIC/SSCC-resistant steel, station-use steel, and hot induction bend pipe steel. These pipeline steel products have been extensively applied in major projects, including the West-East Gas Pipeline, the China–Myanmar X70 anti-deformation pipeline, the Central Asia pipeline, the China–Russia East Route, the Xinjiang gas pipeline, and the Oman X65MS anti-corrosion pipeline project.
