On March 21, a press conference for the China Science Fiction Convention 2025 took place at the press conference hall of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality. The 9th China Science Fiction Convention, also known as the China Science Fiction Convention 2025, will be held from March 28 to 31 at Shougang Park. This marks the fifth consecutive year the convention has been hosted at this iconic venue. Attending the press conference and sharing details about the event were Ni Zhiyu, Head of the Science Popularization Department of the China Association for Science and Technology; Dong Qichao, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission and the Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park; Meng Fanxing, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology; Li Wenhua, Member of the Party Leadership Group, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shijingshan District Committee, and Vice Mayor of Shijingshan District; and Wang Shizhong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice General Manager of Shougang Group. These officials provided an overview of the convention's preparations and took questions from the media.

Wang Shizhong highlighted the distinctive aspects of Shougang Park as the venue for this year's China Science Fiction Convention, as well as the support and service systems in place. He recalled that during the 2020 convention, the China Association for Science and Technology and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Promoting the Development of Beijing’s Science Fiction Industry. This agreement officially designated Shougang Park in Shijingshan District as the country's first sci-fi industry cluster. Over the last five years, with guidance and support from the China Association for Science and Technology, the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, and the Shijingshan District authorities, Shougang Group has cultivated the science fiction industry as a key driver of new quality productive forces. Capitalizing on the opportunity afforded by hosting the convention, the Group has championed an innovation-driven strategy, establishing a complete industrial ecosystem for sci-fi development. This has transformed Shougang Park from merely a "convention venue" into a true "industry hub."

To ensure the success of this year's convention and its associated activities, Shougang Group has prioritized event organization and support services. Firstly, the Group intends to elevate the visitor experience by showcasing the venue's distinctive characteristics. In keeping with the convention's signature theme, "Forging Dreams Around the Furnace," the main events will, for the first time, be consolidated at the Shougang International Convention and Exhibition Center within the No. 4 Blast Furnace. Characterized by its integration of "industrial heritage and futuristic scenarios," the No. 4 Blast Furnace is a flagship project in the ongoing urban renewal of Shougang Park.

At this year's convention, the second floor of the No. 4 Blast Furnace will host the Opening Ceremony and the Sci-Fi Planet Gala, while the first floor will showcase the Fantastic Science Encounters, the Sci-Fi Lifestyle Festival, and the Sci-Fi Market. A Sci-Fi Mecha Exhibition will be staged on the south square. With all these experiences concentrated in one venue, citizens, tourists, and sci-fi enthusiasts alike can immerse themselves in the excitement of the convention without ever leaving the Furnace. Secondly, Shougang Group has refined its working mechanisms and bolstered its support services. Drawing on the experience of previous conventions and in line with the directives of the Beijing municipal government and Shijingshan District, the Group has established a joint guarantee mechanism working group led by the Group's main leaders. The team comprises key subsidiaries, including Beijing Shougang Construction Investment Co., Ltd. and Beichen Jingxi Science Fiction (Beijing) Exhibition Co., Ltd. This leadership group is responsible for coordinating and executing all aspects of the event's preparation and support. A comprehensive service guarantee work plan has been carefully developed to ensure the successful execution of key events, such as the opening ceremony, and to guarantee that the convention is held to the highest standard. Thirdly, significant efforts have been made to strengthen brand promotion and create a vibrant atmosphere. A dedicated Promotional Work Plan for the China Science Fiction Convention 2025 has been formulated to create publicity initiatives throughout the event's duration. By highlighting key topics and major attractions, leveraging live streaming, and fully utilizing the advantages of various new media platforms, the plan aims to create strong momentum for the convention. Throughout the event, the Group will coordinate media coverage to ensure full on-site reporting, vividly showcasing the unique appeal of Shougang Park, emphasizing the sci-fi theme, and spotlighting key highlights and outcomes - further enhancing the convention's visibility and influence.

During the recently concluded "Two Sessions", the imperative of "boosting consumption" was highlighted in the Report on the Work of the Government as the top of the ten key government tasks for 2025. Likewise, in the Report on the Work of the Government 2025 of Beijing, boosting consumption was identified as a critical driver of economic growth. In response to a question about service consumption during the China Science Fiction Convention 2025, Wang Shizhong noted that Shougang Park, as a cross-sector, integrated urban industrial park, has consistently regarded consumption as a core driving force - while continuing to foster and develop the sci-fi industry. At this year's convention, Shougang aims to enhance its sci-fi intellectual property and establish new, shareable landmarks ideal for social media. Municipal state-owned enterprises will collaborate to launch branded events, while the integration of culture, tourism, and technology will bring to life a unique sci-fi journey. Tech-driven experiences will elevate consumer engagement through immersive and futuristic settings, and coordinated promotional campaigns with merchants will introduce distinctive consumption scenarios tailored to the theme.

The China Science Fiction Convention 2025 is jointly hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, with advisory support from the China Film Administration and the China Writers Association. Revolving around the theme "Science Dreams - Creating the Future," the convention will feature five major sections: the Opening Ceremony, professional forums, various competitions, industry promotion activities, and public engagement events - amounting to over 30 individual sessions. The 2025 Beijing Science Fiction Carnival will also run in parallel with the convention.
