Spring breeze sweeps across Shougang, while the fragrance of books fills the park. On April 18, the 2026 Beijing Book Fair Shougang Park venue officially opened. As the western core venue of the Beijing Book Fair, Shougang Park leverages its century-old industrial heritage characteristics to create an immersive, interactive, and integrated new cultural consumption scene. By synergizing with the high-quality resources of Shijingshan District and deeply activating its industrial cultural genes, the venue presents citizens with a splendid spring cultural feast.
Themed “Beijing, City of Books - Reading Pleasure in Spring”, the book fair creates an immersive reading space with both texture and warmth at the North Square of Big Air Shougang. Covering a total area of 3,000 square meters, the fair features 88 booths, including 64 for physical bookstores and 24 for intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and cultural creative products. It integrates book sales, ICH displays, cultural lectures, and leisure experiences. Physical bookstores such as Liren Bookstore, Zhuanjiaoxiang Bookstore, Gangzhui Bookstore, and Wangfujing Bookstore all made appearances, offering a full range of quality books spanning social sciences, literature, children’s books, art, lifestyle, and more.
“I’m here to pick out a picture-word book series for my three-year-old grandson. We have a few at home, and I hope to complete the set this time”, said Ms. Li from near Shougang Park. A young man at the film/TV tie-in book booth excitedly shared with his companion, “I finally found the book series I’ve been wanting to read! It feels better than buying online, and I can flip through the pages right here!” The fair meets the reading and purchasing needs of readers of all ages and interests in a one-stop manner from classic masterpieces to contemporary works, from professional readings to parent-child picture books, allowing every book lover to find their desired spiritual nourishment at the foot of Big Air Shougang.
More than just books, the venue offers myriad wonders. Planned and laid out scientifically based on the principle of “smooth flow and distinctive features”, the Shougang Park venue creates diverse “Reading Plus” cultural, commercial, and tourism scenes. Booths showcasing regional cultural tourism characteristics and ICH creative products fully display the charm of Shijingshan’s culture and tourism. ICH projects such as Beiyuan Specimens, Flowing Sand Paper, and Seal Carving feature live demonstrations and interactive experiences by inheritors, enabling the public to appreciate the intricacy and warmth of traditional craftsmanship up close. Here, reading is no longer a solitary activity confined to pages; it becomes a one-stop cultural leisure experience that is explorable, enjoyable, purchasable, and shareable.
During the book fair, a dedicated reading activity area will be open to the public free of charge. Twenty meticulously planned themed cultural activities will be launched, covering author signings, new book launches, parent-child reading sessions, and more, catering to readers of all ages. Resonating with over a thousand reading events across the city, these activities aim to comprehensively enhance citizens’ sense of cultural participation and fulfillment, making reading for all a true part of daily life that reaches deep into the heart.
From industrial heritage to a cultural landmark, Shougang Park consistently empowers urban renewal through culture. The hosting of the Beijing Book Fair at Shougang Park represents both a deep activation of the park’s cultural heritage and a vivid practice in building the capital into a “city of books”. It fosters a unique fusion where the robust industrial landscape and the gentle charm of books and ink collide and blend, creating a distinctive cultural skyline in western Beijing.
With spring at its finest and the fragrance of books carrying far, the 2026 Beijing Book Fair Shougang Park venue sincerely welcomes visitors from April 18 to 26.
