On April 15, the 2026 International Day for Monuments and Sites theme event, themed “Digital Integration of Living Heritage: Co-Creating Industrial Memories”, was held at the RE Blast Furnace No. 3 Digital Museum in Shougang Park. The event was attended by experts, scholars from government departments, universities, and industrial institutions, enterprise representatives, retired Shougang cadres, and journalists.

Structured around the themes of “memory, inheritance and co-creation”, the event featured the donation of historical industrial objects to the Museum, the launch of an industrial heritage study route, and the inauguration of a university-industry collaborative practice base.

During the “Memory” segment, retired Shougang cadre representatives Qiao Yukui, Zheng Zhong, and Zhang Shijun donated historical objects carrying a century of industrial memory to the digital museum. They shared the stories behind these objects and the development history of Shougang, inheriting and carrying forward the Shougang Spirit based on physical artifacts, thus making the century-old industrial memory resonate deeply and transforming it into “tangible industrial heritage”. Attendees presented collection certificates to the donors, symbolizing the integration of grassroots memory into the public cultural heritage system and vividly illustrating that “industry holds memories, and objects speak”.

In the “Inheritance” segment, the “Centennial Shougang Metamorphosis” industrial heritage study route, originally designed by faculty and students from Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, was officially released. The route is open to youth, schools, and community groups, aiming to become Beijing’s industrial heritage-themed study brand, bridging heritage, education, and the public. It offers a replicable and scalable model, turning industrial sites into “walking classrooms”.

During the “Co-creation” segment, the “RE Blast Furnace No 3 Digital Museum ×Practice Base for the School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture” was officially unveiled. Based on the integrated construction of “industry-teaching-research-application”, the base encompasses teaching practice, digital preservation, public communication, and innovative display, providing a referential university-enterprise cooperation model for industrial heritage revitalization practices nationwide.

In the academic report session, experts and scholars including Fu Fan from Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Ha Jing from Shenyang Jianzhu University, and Bu Xiting from Communication University of China delivered sharing and exchange sessions. Their topics covered Boosting the Activation and Utilization of Shougang's Industrial Heritage through Industrial Tourism, The Path of Protection and Revitalization of Shenyang's Industrial Heritage, and The Era Translation, Digital Rebirth, and Living Perception of Industrial Heritage, providing cutting-edge theoretical and practical experience for industrial heritage protection and inheritance.

The successful hosting of the “Digital Integration of Living Heritage: Co-Creating Industrial Memories” theme event represents a systematic and innovative practical demonstration in the field of living heritage inheritance of China’s industrial heritage. By choosing Shougang’s No.3 Blast Furnace, a benchmark space for industrial heritage revitalization, as the venue and organically integrating academic exchange with community participation, the event not only highlights the core purpose of the International Day for Monuments and Sites but also presents a replicable path featuring “Protection-Utilization-Display” for the living inheritance of industrial heritage.
