Recently, the China Machinery Metallurgy Building Materials Workers’ Technical Association commended China iron and steel industry workers’ quality achievements in 2023, and 36 Shougang projects won awards. Among them, there were two first-class achievements, ten second-class achievements, 12 third-class achievements and 12 excellent achievements.

The first-class China iron and steel industry workers’ quality achievements in 2023 won by Shougang were “Research and Application of Key Technologies of Blast Furnace System Equipment” and “Technical Research on Iron-Coke Balance in Jingtang under Situation of High Productivity and Violent Fluctuation of Coking Coal Resources”.

“Research and Application of Key Technologies of Blast Furnace System Equipment” completed by Beijing Shougang Co., Ltd. lays a solid foundation for equipment management, carries out scientific and technological innovation in key and difficult parts, breaks through bottlenecks and improves the equipment R&D system, allowing the blast furnace ironmaking equipment to maintain smooth, stable and long-life operation under ultra-low emission conditions, and making the output of molten iron reach new highs. Environmental protection, high yield, intelligence and low energy consumption all rely on the project research team’s long-term scientific and technological innovation of the key technologies of blast furnace system equipment, forming a set of research and application achievements in key blast furnace system technologies with independent intellectual property rights. The successful application of this achievement has improved the smooth and stable operation of blast furnace ironmaking system equipment, and reduced the forced shutdown of blast furnaces caused by core equipment failures. The stable operation of the gas full recovery system and gas preheater equipment has greatly reduced greenhouse gas and dust emissions, thereby promoting green development with low energy consumption.

“Technical Research on Iron-Coke Balance in Jingtang under Situation of High Productivity and Violent Fluctuation of Coking Coal Resources” completed by Shougang Jingtang is based on the experimental data of a 300 kg small coke oven. It clarifies the influence of various coals on particle size and strength, carries out coking performance experiments on various coals, studies the influence and mechanisms of different coking coals on cracks and optimizes coke particle size distribution by coal blending adjustment, which not only reduces the cost of coking coal blending, but also gradually reduces the excessive dependence on strong-bonded scarce coking coal resources. The project developed and used 20 new kinds of coking coal resources for the first time in China and the coke output increased steadily, meeting the demand for high-yield coke in blast furnaces.

Ten projects were honored as second-class achievements, including “Research and Application of Belt Roaster Pellet Quality Homogenization Technology” completed by Shougang Jingtang, “Construction and Application of ‘133’ Ore Quality Management System in Macheng Iron Mine’s Infrastructure Period” completed by Shougang Mining, and “Development and Application of Automatic Detection Technology System for Blast Furnace Metal Materials” completed by Beijing Shougang Co., Ltd.; 12 projects were honored as third-class achievements, including “Changing Refueling Channel of Finishing Roll from Straight Thread to Tapered Thread and its Matching Parts to Ensure Refueling Quality” completed by Shougang Jingtang, “Development and Application Research of Lubrication Technology for Hot Rolling Roll in Beijing Shougang Co., Ltd.” completed by Beijing Shougang Co., Ltd., “Producing Qualified Products and Making High-quality Building Materials” completed by Shougang Mining, and “Shortening Maintenance Time of Sleeve Kiln” completed by Shougang Changzhi Iron & Steel Co., Ltd.; and 12 projects were honored as excellent achievements, including “Improving the Distribution Accuracy of Sintering Machines” completed by Shougang Jingtang, “Reducing the Replacement Time of Small Tuyere Sets” completed by Shougang Changzhi Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., “Striving for Excellence to Improve Grade of Iron Concentrate Powder” completed by Shougang Mining and “Reducing Normal Roll Change Time” completed by Beijing Shougang Co., Ltd.

It is reported that the National Iron and Steel Industry Workers’ Quality Achievement Exhibition and Exchange Activities are intended to encourage those who have completed achievements to obtain excellent results and further stimulate the enthusiasm and creativity of workers in learning scientific knowledge and tackling key quality problems. Recommended by member units, a total of 346 achievements and 289 effective achievements were collected. After evaluation, 190 award-winning achievements were finally selected, including ten first-class achievements, 30 second-class achievements, 50 third-class achievements and 100 excellent achievements.
