Shougang Park in early winter is warm and sunny with clear skies. On November 20th, 35 members of the "Volunteer Public Welfare" Sub-group of the "Hong Kong and Macao Youth Visiting the Motherland" Representative Exchange Delegation from all walks of life visited and exchanged ideas at Shougang Park, experienced the development of the "Green Winter Olympics" and "Post-Winter Olympics" era at the site, and interacted and exchanged with young Shougang volunteers.

Guided by the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Central Committee and sponsored by the Liaison Office of Hong Kong and Macao, Hong Kong SAR Government, Macao SAR Government and Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the "Hong Kong and Macao Youth Visiting the Motherland" Representative Exchange Delegation from various sectors of Hong Kong and Macao visited Beijing from November 19th to 23rd.

The youth representatives from Hong Kong and Macao first came to the office area of the Organizing Committee for the Winter Olympics and experienced the Olympic philosophy of "green, sharing, open and clean" in Beijing. Everyone praised Shougang Park for realizing the perfect combination of industrial relics and Olympic elements, and took group photos. Upon seeing the locomotive on Xishi Square, representatives from Hong Kong and Macao curiously asked the young Shougang volunteers, "How can there be a locomotive in the factory?" "How long has it been here?" "What’s the function of the locomotive?" The young volunteers gave detailed answers. At the Xishi Silo Exhibition Hall, the young representatives from Hong Kong and Macao carefully learned about the history and regional transformation process of the Xishi Silo, and praised the wisdom and courage of the people of Shougang. Chen Suijin, a youth representative from Hong Kong and Macao, said, “Upon my first visit to Shougang Park, the transformation here is very impressive. During the process of transforming from iron and steel smelting to the office area of the Winter Olympics Organizing Committee and the venue of the Winter Olympics, Shougang has carried out many energy-saving and environmental protection transformations, and this has given me a deeper understanding of the motherland and Shougang's hosting of the ‘Green Winter Olympics’.

Subsequently, the youth representatives from Hong Kong and Macao climbed onto the 40-meter platform of Blast Furnace No. 3 and looked around. The scattered industrial relics were all visible, whether Shijingshan, known as the "First Fairy Mountain in Beijing"; Big Air Shougang, known as the "Blessed Land of Double Gold Medals"; the majestic New Shougang Bridge; the Aerial Trail of Gaoxian Park, an aerial corridor which is unique in the world; the "Four Ice Stadiums"; or Chang'an Mills and the settlement-style service trade exhibition areas transformed from industrial relics. Doo Hoi Kem, a youth representative from Hong Kong and Macao, said excitedly that he had never had a chance to visit Shougang Park before. After visiting today, he was astonished and had gained a deeper understanding of the history of Shougang, which gave him a sense of the power of China through the development of Shougang, and made him feel very proud to be Chinese.

At Shougang Taolou, the youth representatives from Hong Kong and Macao watched Shougang promotional videos and visited the exhibition area on the first floor. "Wow! Can industrial exhaust really be turned into protein powder? How do they do it?" Each time they saw the research achievements and triumphs of Shougang, the youth representatives could not help but praise the greatness of the motherland and the wisdom of Shougang people. Wu Xueming, head of the Fifth Division, said that it was a great pleasure to visit and study at Shougang Park, which has a long history and rich industrial culture heritage. Shougang has witnessed the development of iron and steel in the motherland over the past century. The development and construction of Shougang Park is excellent, and many of Shougang's amazing and admirable achievements are also displayed here.
