In the early morning of September 23rd, after three days and nights of continuous efforts in Tiananmen Square, the giant flower and fruit basket "Blessing Our Motherland" was in full bloom again in 2023. This year marks the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. In order to create a grand, warm, festive and peaceful atmosphere, giant flower baskets and 10 groups of flower beds were arranged in Tiananmen Square and along Chang'an Avenue under the theme "Promoting the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation in an All-round Way through the Chinese Path to Modernization". The giant flower and fruit basket "Blessing the Motherland" is the highlight of the flower bed group. This year marks the 16th consecutive year that the Steel Structure Branch of Beijing Shougang Construction Group Co., Ltd. has undertaken the production and installation of the National Day Themed Flower Basket in Tiananmen Square.

The project team of the Steel Structure Branch of Beijing Shougang Construction Group Co., Ltd. fully embodied the distinctive characteristics of Shougang employees, namely enthusiastic, politically conscious and capable of fulfilling their responsibilities. They overcame numerous difficulties, made careful and well-planned arrangements during construction, and completed every installation step precisely according to a minute-by-minute schedule and the finest units of measurement. They conquered challenges such as continuous operation at night, strictly controlled the safety and quality of the project, fully promoted the construction progress and successfully completed the installation tasks with the highest standards, strictest requirements and best conditions, presenting a gift for the 74th birthday of our great motherland.

The giant flower and fruit basket in Tiananmen Square adopts a prefabricated steel structure with a total weight of 245 tons. The biggest difficulty of this project lay in the perfect fitting of the basket plate and basket belly with the use of a hoist. The basket plate with the flowers in place weighs about 60 tons, so two cranes were required to work together to complete the hoisting. The bottom of the flower basket is 45 meters in diameter and has a peony pattern, symbolizing prosperity. Made of fiberglass reinforced plastics (FRP), the basket can resist Force 10 winds. The whole flower basket has a maximum height of 18 meters, and the basket plate has a diameter of 12 meters. From bottom to top, it consists of sloping flower beds, FRP basket belly, FRP basket plate and basket core. This year, "Blessing Our Motherland, 1949 - 2023" is written on the south side of the flower basket, while "Happy National Day, 1949 -2023" is written on the north side. The basket contains flowers with auspicious meanings and five grains (rice, wheat, millet, glutinous millet and soybean) that celebrate harvest, serving as symbols of blooming flowers and a bumper harvest.
