On the evening of May 29th, under the theme "Scientific Dreams Create the Future" the 2023 China Science Fiction Convention kicked off at Blast Furnace No. 1 in Shougang Park. Wan Gang, Chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, announced the opening of the conference. Liu Wei, Deputy Party Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Leaders of relevant units under the central government and Beijing Municipality Niu Yibing, Wu Zhaohui, Shu Wei, Meng Qinghai, Qiu Huadong and Yu Yingjie attended the opening ceremony. It was also attended by representatives from scientific and technological circles, science fiction literature circles, film and television circles, and industrial circles. This Science Fiction Convention was included in the ZGC Forum for the first time and became a parallel forum of the National Science and Technology Forum.

As night fell, the lights of Shougang Park were as bright as day and the luminous Milky Way. Blast Furnace No. 1 glowed with the unknown blue of the universe, the South Square was transformed into an "entrance to a parallel world", the vast universe was displayed on the giant screen, and Shougang Park officially opened the door of science fiction. At the opening ceremony, the Technology Award of the Science Fiction Star Awards was presented, and the Beijing Yuanyu Science Fiction and Future Technology Research Institute, Wang Jinkang Studio and Liu Cixin Studio were unveiled. The 2023 China Science Fiction Industry Report and Youth Science Fiction Education Guide were released at the venue, showing promotional videos of science fiction movies and excellent short science fiction videos. The projection technology 3DMapping was used to create a gorgeous holographic light and shade effect at Blast Furnace No. 1 with the help of a vertical screen and flexible giant screen. The industrial blast furnace and light and shade demonstration showed the metaverse in a unique way, expressing the imagination of future science fiction and stimulating the infinite imagination of the metaverse.

This convention will last until June 4th, and 40 activities will be held in aspects such as thematic forums, science fiction exhibitions and science fiction activities. A themed light show will be staged every night at Blast Furnace No. 1 in Shougang Park. During the convention, new technologies and products of the science fiction industry will be exhibited in the exhibition hall on the first floor of the ZGC Science Fiction Industry Innovation Center (Building 2, Jin'an Science Fiction Plaza, Shougang Park). There are 60 new technologies and products from more than 50 science fiction enterprises and over 20 real shooting props and interactive experience devices for science fiction movies exhibited in the indoor exhibition hall. An Augmented Reality (AR) exhibition space is set up in the outdoor venue where the audience can experience the visual effect of combining virtuality and reality through their mobile phones.

This is the third time that the China Science Fiction Convention has been held in Shougang Park since it first landed in 2020. At the 2020 China Science Fiction Convention, the China Association for Science and Technology and Beijing Municipal Government signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Promoting the Development of the Beijing Science Fiction Industry, and decided to build the first science fiction industry cluster in China around Shijingshan Shougang Park. In the past three years, with the guidance and support of the China Association for Science and Technology and Beijing Municipality, Shougang Park has followed its deployment in accordance with the Implementation Plan of the Science Fiction Industry Cluster Area and Municipal Work Plan for the Science Fiction Industry, and steadily promoted various tasks together with the Shijingshan District Government, achieving initial success in the construction of the Science Fiction Industry Cluster Area.

The spark of the science fiction industry is starting a wildfire in Shougang Park, and the leading advantages of science fiction industry development are becoming increasingly prominent. Shougang Park is changing from a "venue to hold conventions" to an "industrial cluster". More than 70 science fiction and technology enterprises have settled in the science fiction industry cluster in succession, and the new SoReal Metaverse Paradise at Blast Furnace No. 1 and the metaverse Experience Center of Hall No. 10 of the China International Fair for Trade in Services will be gradually opened to the public, initially constructing an industrial development pattern of "content creation + IP commercialization + production of special effects in film and television + hard technology + immersive experience". The carrying capacity of the science fiction industry in Shougang Park has been further enhanced, the ecosystem of the science fiction industry has been continuously improved, and application demonstration scenarios have been further enriched.

Shougang Park is taking the China Science Fiction Convention as the platform, taking the construction of the science fiction industry cluster as the important starting point, aiming at building a "Science Fiction City in Western Beijing", paying attention to city and district linkage, strengthening cooperation between the district and enterprises, continuously promoting the IP operation of the China Science Fiction Convention, fully integrating its endowment advantages with the gathering of science fiction elements, and creating a "Shougang Scene" in the field of science fiction in China.
