On October 12th, Ma Lu, Vice President, Secretary of the Secretariat and member of the Leading Party Group of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, led a team to Shougang Technician College to investigate the construction of “Capital Craftsman College”. The investigation was participated in by Wang Xiaofeng, Head of the Labor and Economic Work Department of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, Zhang Liang, Party Secretary and Vice President of the Beijing Federation of Trade Unions, Wang Jingdong, member of the Leading Party Group and Vice President of the Beijing Federation of Trade Unions, Qiu Yinfu, Deputy Party Secretary and President of Shougang Group Trade Union, and responsible persons of relevant units such as the Labor and Economic Work Department of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, Staff Development Department of the Beijing Federation of Trade Unions, Staff University of the Beijing Federation of Trade Unions (Municipal Trade Union Cadre College), Shougang Group Trade Union and Shougang Technician College.

The team focused its investigation and survey on the smart home training base, intelligent manufacturing training base, safety production training base and virtual reality technology training base in Shougang Technician College, which has been listed as “Capital Craftsman College”.

Founded in 1954 as the cradle of Shougang’s training for high-skilled talents, Shougang Technician College was honored as an “Outstanding Contribution Unit of National Skilled Personnel Training” by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China. The college successively completed construction projects for the National High-skilled Personnel Training Base in the first and second batches, and served as the National Training Base for Welding and other categories in the 45th and 46th World Skills Competitions, with contestants training here going on to win gold medals. In recent years, Shougang Technician College has paid attention to the roles of enterprise craftsmen and model workers, and held several training sessions such as the Shougang Craftsman Lecture Hall, Advanced Study and Training for Technicians, Advanced Study and Training of Innovation Ability in Studios and Advanced Study and Training for Operation Experts, playing an important supporting role in the team construction of industrial workers in enterprises.

Since the beginning of the year, the Beijing Federation of Trade Unions has actively promoted the construction of “Capital Craftsman College” by relying on model workers at all levels, craftsmen from world powers, great craftsmen in Beijing, leaders of model worker innovation studios and outstanding talents in skills competitions, and by drawing upon the construction experience and organizational form of the “New Era Craftsman College” of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. Vocational skills colleges and enterprise training centers with venue and hardware advantages were selected to establish “Capital Craftsman College”; professional and technical committees that meet the industrial function orientation of the capital and possess talent advantages were selected to form its faculty and curriculum system; and rare and highly skilled talents in high-tech fields which were urgently needed for economic development in the capital were cultivated with the help of the management and operation strength of professional training institutions.
