Since earlier this year, Capital Development Investment Fund Management Co., Ltd. has vigorously promoted the construction of the Science Fiction Industry Cluster District in Shougang Park. So far, more than ten science fiction enterprises have entered including the China Science Fiction Research Center, Tencent, Sky Limited Entertainment, Skymaper, Future Affairs Administration and so on, and the district has signed contracts with the studios of science fiction writers Zheng Jun, Fu Guofeng and other great masters. Immersive digital Yuanmingyuan, music robots and other projects created cooperatively with Tsinghua University have been put into operation; the digital studio in cooperation with Tencent will be completed and put into use within the year; and the Blast Furnace Fantasy Park VR Immersive Experience Project will be officially put into operation before or after the Winter Olympics. The 6th China Science Fiction Conference, Beijing International Film Festival Science Fiction Film Week, Science Fiction Carnival, Night of Science Fiction and other activities will also be held one after another. A science fiction city integrating culture with science and technology is emerging.

Shougang Park gives full play to its unique advantages and vigorously develops the science fiction industry by relying on its industrial heritage with a great sense of science fiction. In November 2020, the 5th China Science Fiction Conference was held in Shougang Park, at which the China Association for Science and Technology and People’s Government of Beijing Municipality signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Promoting the Development of the Science Fiction Industry in Beijing. The first science fiction industry cluster district was officially listed in Shougang Park in China, and Shougang Park issued the Implementation Plan of Science Fiction Industry Cluster District in Shougang Park which defines the functional orientation of the Science Fiction International Exchange Center, Science Fiction Technology Empowerment Center, Science Fiction Consumption Experience Center and Science Fiction Public Service Platform (three centers and one platform). Shougang Park has officially commenced the construction of a science fiction city covering an area of 71.7 hectares. The Science Fiction International Exchange Center will rely on science fiction conferences and related industry activities to promote international exchange and cooperation in the field of science fiction; the Science Fiction Technology Empowerment Center will introduce film & television and digital technology enterprises to empower film & television production and equipment R&D; the Science Fiction Consumption Experience Center will create an entertainment consumption experience of “Science Fiction +” integration by building an experiential digital intelligent technology application scenario, forming a gathering place of science fiction consumption in Beijing; and the Science Fiction Public Service Platform will establish a one-stop platform ranging from graphic image rendering, digital shooting and production, and cloud services to copyright transactions.

In order to promote the development of the science fiction industry cluster district, Capital Development Investment Fund Management Co., Ltd. established “specially-assigned persons, teams and majors” to accelerate the preparation and publicity of science fiction activities themed “one master and three followers”, such as the China Science Fiction Conference with the strong support of the China Association for Science and Technology, Municipal Science and Technology Commission, District Science and Technology Commission and other departments; took the lead in setting up the “China Science Fiction Industry Alliance”; researched and established science fiction awards; accelerated the construction of science fiction carriers; cultivated and introduced high-growth science and technology innovation enterprises; effectively docked research and policies in the science fiction industry; promoted chain building, extension, supplementation and strengthening; and comprehensively built a science fiction industry ecosystem.

At the same time, it is accelerating the construction of science fiction industry development carriers and promoting the development of the Science Fiction International Exchange Center by reusing industrial relics such as blast furnaces and taking the special activity venues of clothing trade fairs as the main carriers. It regards Jin’anqiao District with a space of 77,000 m2 as the main receiving area of the Science Fiction Technology Empowerment Center and Science Fiction Public Service Platform. It attracts leading enterprises, science fiction incubators, Science Fiction Public Service Platform and other institutions to enter with an office area of 58,000 m2; it strengthens supporting commerce science fiction experience in the park with an area of the commercial district and other supporting facilities of 19,000 m2; and it relies on the characteristic industrial buildings in the surrounding areas to promote the consumption experience of science fiction and the construction of a production center.

Following the holding of the Science Fiction Parallel Session of Beijing Science and Technology Week in May of this year, Shougang Park will introduce more science fiction activity resources in the second half of the year. Besides continuously holding the 6th China Science Fiction Conference, the Beijing International Film Festival Science Fiction Film Week, Science Fiction Carnival, Night of Science Fiction and other activities will also be held one after another to continuously create an atmosphere of science fiction brand activities with Beijing characteristics. Shougang Park will become a place for science fiction fans to pay visit and an incubation and gathering place for the science fiction industry. A science fiction city integrating culture with science and technology is emerging.
