Slab Casting Machine of Beijing’s Shougang Sets a New Record for Continuous Casting

At 21:36 on November 17, 2019, Steelmaking No. 4 Slab Continuous Casting Machine of Beijing Shougang Co., Ltd. completed 508 furnaces of continuous casting. The continuous casting started at 10:16 on November 2, and lasted for 22,280 minutes, or about 371 hours in 16 days, completing a casting length of 26,095 meters with a total of 9 steel type groups and 46 tapping marks. During this process, it finished 42 times of tundish quick change, 44 times of partition inserting and 67 times of online width adjustment, realizing fast change of combined tundish between silicon steel and carbon steel, and among low-medium-and-high-grade non-oriented silicon steels for the first time. Following the continuous casting of 118 furnaces at No. 3 Slab on March 15, 2019 and the continuous casting of 238 furnaces at No. 2 Slab on July 30, Beijing Shougang once again sets a new record for continuous casting, completing the company's continuous casting plan of 421 furnaces in the beginning of the year.

At 10:16 on November 2, the No. 4 Casting Machine of the second steelmaking slab of the Steelmaking Operation Department started casting, beginning its journey for the annual goal of continuously casting 421 furnaces of the second steelmaking production unit started its journey to the continuous and uninterrupted pouring of the annual target of 421 furnaces.

This time, the tundish fast-change continuous casting is different from the past, mainly because the number of casting furnaces has increased significantly compared with the previous 238 furnaces, and the duration has been significantly extended. In the meantime, it is necessary to overcome various unfavorable factors including the inability to perform periodic inspections on crystallizers, secondary cooling nozzles, electromagnetic stirring systems, fan-shaped rollers, etc., large slab shrinkage of high-grade non-oriented silicon steel tundish, high risks of continuous casting caused by large deviation between medium-grade non-oriented silicon steel and other large steel grades. In particular, there are some uncertain factors as to whether the mold copper plate can withstand long continuous casting test, and whether the secondary cold-water nozzle can meet the non-blocking under the long continuous casting conditions. Among them, unlimited number of mold line width adjustment that can realize the casting cross section of any width from 750 mm to 1,600 mm, tundish quick change and continuous casting of middle and high grade non-oriented silicon steel, and continuous casting for over 300 furnaces are the first try for the company, which has great risks in the continuous casting of non-oriented silicon steel of medium-high grade non-oriented silicon steel and other steel castings, unlimited on-line width adjustment of crystallizers, and stable operation of electromagnetic stirring systems and other equipment for a long time.

The success of the quick continuous casting of steelmaking ladle has tested the continuous casting ability of multiple steel combination forms, which greatly reduces the casting machine preparation time and the time for periodic repair of casting machines, thereby dividing the casting machine overhauling plan into parts to fundamentally improve the production efficiency of the casting machine. At the same time, it also provided valuable experience for the subsequent exploration of long-term organization rules, summary and optimization of problems in the process and laid a solid foundation for the improvement of the company's overall production capacity.
