A few days ago, the National Greening Model Units and the National Greening Medal Winners were announced, and Shougang Jingtang Company was on the list, winning the title of “National Greening Model Unit.”

Following the concept of circular economy construction, Shougang Jingtang Company worked with a total planned area of 25 square kilometers, with the project’s first-phase covering an area of 13 square kilometers, all built by blowing sand. In 2008, Jingtang Company started the “sand fixation by greening”, overcoming many unfavorable factors, such as serious soil desertification, high saline-alkali content, high groundwater table level, high evaporation rate, barren soil fertility and poor water and moisture retention. It carried out soil improvement and environmental control in a down-to-earth manner. After three years and four months of greening construction, first-phase of the greening project was fully completed, establishing a green area of more than 3.2 million square meters, with a large-area ground cover plants and over 1.47 million trees and shrubs planted. The land became an oasis. In 2011, the center of the greening work of the company was moved on from “sand fixation by greening” stage to “landscape improvement” and the “forest development”. In this phase, it continues to create landscape highlights and constructed “tree-lined belt”, building 25 green landscape belt points and tree-lined belts for 28 main road loop lines. At present, the total area of the first-stage greening of the company is 4.99 million square meters, with the available green rate up to 100%, the green coverage rate up to 41%, and the green rate up to 38%.

Jingtang Company adheres to parallel progress of environmental protection and greening. At present, all the environmental indicators of the company have reached the domestic advanced level, with the water circulation utilization rate as high as 98.8%; achieving 100% recycling in various solid wastes such as blast furnace slag, steel slag, fly ash, dust-removing ash and steel-rolled iron oxide scale. It realizes the three main functions of product lean manufacturing, high-efficiency conversion of energy and recycling of the waste. Jingtang Company has embarked on a green high-quality development road. In 2014, Shougang Jingtang Company was awarded “Environmentally Friendly Enterprise with Clean Production” by CISA. In 2016, it won the “Ninth China Baosteel Environmental Excellence Award”, which is the only iron and steel enterprise to win this award, and was hailed as the pioneer of green transformation and development.
