On 10th October, at the 23rd International Passive House Conference, Passive House Institute awarded PHI certification certificate to Phase-I Building 40 Project of Beijing (Caofeidian) Modern Industrial Development Experimental Area (Eco-city Pilot Start Area). This is the first residential project in China to obtain PHI certification, which is of key significance towards the all-round promotion and development works of passive house in China. It provides valuable experience for German passive technology to land in China. In view of the significance to the development projects in China employing the passive architecture concept, the certificate was signed and issued by Dr. Kaufmann, Executive Director of Passive House Institute, and read out and presented by Dr. Wolfgang Feist, co-founder of the passive house concept.

Passive House Institute (PHI), led by Dr. Feist, is currently the most recognized authoritative professional research and certification body worldwide. The International Passive House Conference is the green building development conference that is most extensively participated, most credible and huge influence in the world. It is also regarded as the “Olympic” of the world energy-saving field. The scientific research institution has always led the research and development of the international super-efficient energy-saving building structure in terms of concept, components, quality assurance and the like. The annual conference has become a global platform for scientists, architects, engineers and product developers to exchange and share information in the field of energy-saving building and energy-saving transformation.

At current stage, there are very few PHI certified projects in China which are in accordance with the German standards. This “high quality life” project serves to aid industrial transfer from Beijing and creating of non-capital function leads the development direction of green building in China. It improves the urban construction quality of Caofeidian New City, promotes the strategy of “one port and two cities” and the development of international coastal new city. It attracts the gathering of talents and provides a landing for industrial transfer.
