At the historically significant moment of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC and the 100th anniversary of the construction of Shougang, the Shougang Hospital of Peking University also ushered in its 70th anniversary of establishment. On December 18, the opening ceremony of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Shougang Hospital of Peking University was held in Shougang Sports Building, followed by the “Medical Masters Forum” and cultural performances.

Han Qide, former vice chairman of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress, former vice chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and former principal of the Shougang Hospital of Peking University, conveyed his congratulations on its 70th anniversary. He fully affirmed the contributions of the Shougang Hospital of Peking University in the development of health services and encouraged all hospital staff to uphold and expand the fine traditions of Shougang Group and Peking University Medical Department, to provide better services to protect public health, and to provide national medical services for new and greater contributions to national medical and health services development.

Zhan Qimin, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and executive vice president of Peking University, director of Peking University Medical Department, and chairman of the board of directors of the Shougang Hospital of Peking University, attended the “Medical Masters Forum” and made the first academic report.

Over 600 people, including Feng Guosheng, president of Beijing Medical Association, Guo Jiyong, president of Beijing Medical Doctor Association, Zuo Xiaobing, deputy head of Shijingshan District, Gong Jiaming, political commissar of Shijingshan Public Security Branch, Wu Liping, deputy director of the health committee of Shijingshan District, Wang Weimin and Xiao Yuan, deputy directors of the Medical Department of Peking University, Hu Xiongguang and Zhao TianYang, deputy general managers of Shougang Group, as well as leaders of affiliated hospitals of Peking University, leaders of Shougang Group departments, leaders of counterpart support units of the Shougang Hospital of Peking University, representatives from all walks of life and representatives of retired veteran comrades of the Shougang Hospital of Peking University, and representatives of hospital cadres attended the opening ceremony.

Since its establishment in 1949, Shougang Hospital has always been accompanying the growth of the PRC and developing with Shougang. It has gone through 70 years of braving through every thick and thin regardless of hardships. Through the hard work of several generations of hospital staff, Shougang has developed from a corporate hospital who initially merely provides medical and health services to employees into a large comprehensive tertiary hospital integrating medical treatment, scientific research, teaching, and preventive care. Especially in September 2002, Shougang and Peking University jointly explored a new model for co-operative hospitals, which opened a new chapter in the development of the hospital. Several key clinical disciplines and characteristic disciplines have emerged one after another. The Hospice Center has become an industrial benchmark and the standardized treatment of malignant tumors has reached the domestic leading level.
