Ten Years After the Beijing Olympics Games Manifests State-owned Enterprises’ Bearing of Responsibilities

Ten years are so short in the long context of history, but for Shougang, the experience of this period of time is destined to be extraordinary.

“Making every endeavor for the Olympic Games, Shougang keeps pace with the Olympics Games”. A decade ago, for the sake of the blue sky and green water in the capital and the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, with infinite longing, the Shougang people conducted relocation and adjustment, took the lead in putting the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development into practice, writing down the entrepreneurial passion and a new chapter from “mountain” to “sea” and becoming the vanguard of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei collaborative development.

Shougang made contributions to the Olympic Games through practical actions. Shougang also actively undertook a number of tasks of engineering construction for the 2008 Olympic Games, such as the “Bird’s Nest”, the “Water Cube” and “Main Torch Tower”... Many excellent buildings of the Olympic Games impressed the world.

At the same time, Shougang also provided 15,800 tons of high-quality steel to the newly-built stadium, installed the platform boards and stepping boards in the “Bird’s Nest”, built a total area of 80,976 square meters of the Beijing National Stadium Project, and produced and installed 3,347 tons of the main steel structures...

On July 31st, 2015, Beijing successfully bid for the Winter Olympic Games and became the first city to host both the Summer Olympic Games and the Winter Olympic Games, and Shougang ushers in a golden opportunity again. The Winter Olympic Games impel Shougang to create new advantages in urban renewal services and bring new vitality and vigor to old industrial areas.

Shougang’s Xishi Square for the Winter Olympic Games is the central location for making arrangements for and holding the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. The buildings here are mainly reconstructed with iron silos and bunkers, embodying the perfect integration of industrial remains and modern elements. The project transformation meets the requirements of the functional supporting services of office, conference and exhibition of the Organizing Committee for the Winter Olympic Games.

——Old factories turned into “four ice cubes”

Shougang turns old industrial factories into the training fields for the national team, builds a demonstration zone of national sports industry, and a training center for the Winter Olympic Games’ events, including short-track speed skating, figure skating, curling, ice hockey and the other Winter Olympic Games’ training venues and related supporting service facilities. The national teams preparing for the Winter Olympics Games have been training in these facilities.

——Big single-board skiing platform to become a landmark of the Winter Olympic Games

The big single-board platform skiing project is located in the northern park. After it is completed, it will become the first permanently retained and used big single-board platform stadium in the world as well as the only downtown host location for snow events of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games. In the future, it will be opened to the public as a landmark scenic spot of the Winter Olympic Games and an activity space for recreation and body-building.

From June 4th to 8th, 2018, during the summing-up conference of the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games of the International Olympic Committee, Bach highly praised that Shougang Park was an excellent example of putting the 2020 agenda into practice and an “amazing” model of urban planning and renewal.
