Recently, the Metallurgical Science and Technology Awards Committee officially announced that 85 projects were granted the 2018 Metallurgical Science and Technology Award of the China Iron and Steel Industry Association and the Chinese Society for Metals. One of Shougang’s achievements won the first prize Metallurgical Science and Technology Award; two won the second prize, and two the third prize.

Established by the China Iron and Steel Industry Association and the Chinese Society for Metals, the Metallurgical Science and Technology Award is the highest scientific and technological award in the steel industry, officially approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The project “Research and Application of Spraying Steam Mechanism for Sintered Surfaces”, filed by the Shougang Group, won the first prize. Aiming at the synergistic emission reduction of dioxin and CO, the project develops a spraying steam process for sintered surfaces which uses steam to catalyze carbon combustion, increases the infiltration rate of the surface air and changes the shape of chlorine, so as to significantly reduce the sintering waste gases CO and dioxin and improve the quality of sinter, realizing process control of pollutants. The projects qualifying for the second prize of Metallurgical Science and Technology Award include “Development and Application Technology for Lightweight Steel Based on Forward Design of Commercial Vehicles” and “Development and Application of Easy-welding and High-performance Bridge Steel with Low-Strength Ratio for Extra Large Steel Bridges”. Third prize winners of the Metallurgical Science and Technology Award include “Study on the Whole Process Technology and Equipment of Integrated Disposal of Iron Mine and Tailings of Shougang Waterworks” and “Study and Application of Unmanned Technology of Four Large Locomotives of 7.63-Meter Coke Oven”.

The Metallurgical Science and Technology Award aims to promote scientific and technological progress and technological innovation in the metallurgical industry, and to encourage the use of scientific and technological forces to promote the development of the metallurgical industry. Evaluations and awards are organized annually. The ratio of awarded projects does not exceed 40%, and the total number of awarded achievements does not exceed 90 per year.
