On June 2, the product appraisal meeting of high magnetic induction grain-oriented silicon steel products of Shougang’s “double million” UHV high-capacity transformers was held. China Machinery Industry Federation organized experts to appraise the “high magnetic induction grain-oriented silicon steel products of ‘double million’”. The appraisal committee listened to the R&D and application report of the high magnetic induction grain-oriented silicon steel products of “double million” UHV high-capacity transformers, conducted inspections and technical questions at the site. After questioning and discussion, the appraisal was unanimously approved.

Liu Jie, Dean of Shenyang Transformer Research Institute, Fu Xinian, Chief Engineer of the former State Grid Electric Power Research Institute, Tian Zhiling, Executive Deputy Director of Central Iron & Steel Research Institute, 21 experts from scientific research institutes and transformer manufacturing enterprises such as Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Communication and Construction of State Grid Corporation of China, China Southern Power Grid Company Limited, China Electric Power Research Institute, State Grid Global Energy Internet Research Institute, State Grid Electric Power Research Institute, Hubei Electric Power Research Institute, Electric Steel Branch of the Chinese Society for Metals, Baobian Electric Co., Ltd., Xi’an Xidian Transformer Co., Ltd. and TBEA Shenyang Transformer Group Co., Ltd., and leaders of Shougang Group including Zhang Gongyan, Zhao Minge, Liu Jianhui, and related department principals attended the meeting.

Since September 2005, Shougang has initiated the R&D of grain-oriented silicon steel, which used more than 10 years in the independent R&D and innovation, possessing a large-scale production capacity of 150,000 tons of high magnetic induction grain-oriented silicon steel and 100% high magnetic induction products. Since the first volume of high magnetic induction grain-oriented silicon steel was rolled out in March 2012, it has successfully developed a complete set of magnetic performance control technology, bottom control technology, and plate pattern control technology successively, completed an all low temperature process switching, and possessed the core competence of producing high magnetic induction grain-oriented silicon steel with low temperature process. Together with China Electric Power Research Institute, Baobian Electric Co., Ltd., Shenbian, Potevio and others, it jointly built a joint laboratory and formed a consistent management system with independent intellectual property rights. At present, Shougang’s grain-oriented silicon steel has achieved more than 200 sets of EHV and UHV transformers with performance of 500kV and above; thin-gauge products were used in the world’s first large-scale and roll iron core traction transformers of ultra-low iron loss and are energy-saving and environmentally friendly, and installed in China’s first sets of high-speed rail intelligent substations; its products were applied to the power transmission and transformation project of the largest hydroelectric station of Angola, one of the “Belt and Road” countries, providing a strong guarantee for the economic development of Angola.

During the appraisal, the committee listened to several reports including the summary report of results, test report, application report, novelty search report and others, reviewed the relevant documents and data, carried out spot test, and formed the appraisal opinion.

According to the appraisal committee, the comprehensive technical performance of high magnetic induction grain-oriented silicon steel products of Shougang’s “double million” UHV high-capacity transformers has reached the international advanced level of similar products, along with the noise index and coating adhesion index. It has adopted innovative high-performance uniform tissue performance control, fine homogeneous high-adhesion large-tension bottom integrated control, and comprehensive control for reducing the noise level of oriented silicon steel to successfully develop high magnetic oriented silicon steel products with ultra-low loss, low noise, high adhesion, and high magnetic induction. High-grade grade silicon steel product samples such as 27SQGD085, 23SQGD075, and 20SQGD070 have passed the inspection and certification by institutions such as the National Institute of Metrology, China and the Global Energy Internet Research Institute. Electromagnetic performance, surface quality, dimensional accuracy and other comprehensive indicators meet the national standards and the UHV transformer material technology requirements of the State Grid Corporation. The high magnetic induction grain-oriented silicon steel products developed by Shougang have been used in batches for 1,000kV UHV power transformers, with the transformer products passing the test of China National Transformer Quality Supervising Testing Center. The relevant technical indicators are excellent, and it has the ability to supply bulk magnetic high-intensity oriented silicon steel for UHV.
