Recently, our reporter learns from the stadium owner unit, Shougang Construction Investment Co., Ltd., that the conceptual program for single-board big platform of the Beijing Winter Olympics is determined and its planning program will be reported and reviewed. After completion, it will become the first permanently retained and used stadium with a single-board big platform in the world and the only venue being located downtown for holding events on snow of the Beijing Winter Olympics. This is another significant progress in single-board big platform events after FIS determined to build the single-board big platform in Beijing downtown and recommended it as the only site-selection program for the Shougang Park on January 13, 2017 and the IOC confirmed the site-selection program of the Shougang Park of the single-board big platform on September 13, 2017.

The single-board big platform is located in the northern Shougang Beijing Park. It is built against the cooling tower of the original Shougang Power Plant, faces Mount Shijing in the north, the Qunming Lake in the east and the Yongding River in the west. It will be an official competition event in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

In order to deeply exploit the cultural value of the Shougang Park’s industrial heritage and build a stadium for Olympic competitions in a high level, Shougang Construction Investment Co., Ltd. conducts a lot of investigation into site conditions, needs during competitions, utilization after competitions and so on and finally confirms the program for filing for review after several rounds of planning programs. According to the design concept, Shougang’s original old factory buildings and industrial components will be repaired and rebuilt to fulfill the service functions of the audience, judges and OBS rebroadcast and the like during the Winter Olympics and realize the perfect combination of industrial heritages and the running requirements of the Winter Olympics.

As the owner unit, Shougang will be responsible for the construction of the events and post-competition operations. According to the construction plan, the big platform will strictly follow the international competition standards and will become the world's first permanent single-board platform to be retained and used after completion. At the same time, it will be one of the important legacy of the Beijing Olympic Winter Games in 2022 since its sports essence will be retained and it will continue to be used for competitions and training of single-board big platform. It will further promote the public sports on ice and snow in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei while better promoting the industrial transformation of the Shougang Park. The construction of the big platform will also promote the integration of landscapes in the surrounding areas, including the Yongding River, namely the mother river of Beijing City, the Qunming Lake, cooling tower and other Shougang’s industrial heritage facilities, and they will be opened to the public as a sports and leisure park after the Beijing Winter Olympics. At the same time, the big platform will form the magnificent skyline on the east coast of the Yongding River together with Mount Shijing, the Qunming Lake, power plant, and main oxygen-making factory building.
