On April 9, Beijing Federation of Trade Unions officially announced the first list of “Beijing Great Craftsmen”. Wei Jianping, a CNC operator of Beijing Shougang Machinery & Electric Co., Ltd., and other 10 skilled talents from 10 industries (types of work) in the capital, after “craftsman contest”, “challenger qualification trial”, “ultimate challenge”, “comprehensive evaluation” and other aspects of the competition and evaluation, won the first “Beijing Craftsman” title.

It is understood that, in accordance with the policies of the Central Committee and Beijing Municipality, the Municipal Federation of Trade Unions will give certain material rewards to each “Beijing Great Craftsman” winner, giving them equal treatment with advanced figures such as city labor models in research, study, treatment and recuperation. They also supported the establishment of the "Artisan Innovation Studio" in their respective units, and provided 100,000 yuan in subsidies for three consecutive years to encourage “Beijing Great Craftsmen” to carry out the work of “famous teachers leading disciples”, “technological innovation”, “difficult problems research” and so on, thus further forming the good effect of using the minority to bring along the majority and passing on experience.

Wei Jianping has successively engaged in fitters, lathes, milling cutters, CNC lathes, CNC machining center operators, and CNC machine tool commissioning engineers, is now responsible for “Wei Jianping Studio” of Beijing Shougang Machinery & Electric Co., Ltd. He is diligent in studying, hard working, studying hard and constantly enterprising. In order to master the advanced CNC technology, he has become a senior CNC technician, a CNC operator technician, and a member of the National CNC Specialty Committee, and served as the senior referee of the national and Beijing CNC skill competitions, the senior examiner and supervisor of the Beijing CNC lathe workers and have become the leader in the CNC industry in Beijing. In 2012, he won the National May 1 Labor Medal and Labor Model of Shougang. Under the guidance of Wei Jianping, more than 300 CNC lathe workers, CNC milling and processing center operators and senior technicians were trained. During the period of being the chief technical coach of Beijing team in the National CNC Competition, he led the Beijing team to win two team championships and nine individual championships in the whole country winning the title of excellent coach in Beijing many times. Beijing Federation of Trade Unions, Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security have entitled “Wei Jianping Studio” the first batch of workers’ innovation studio and the CNC chief technician’s studio in succession.

The first “Beijing Great Craftsmen” adopted the activity form of “no threshold for registration, promotion in turn through selection, challenge and other links”. It is the first try in the craftsman selection activities in all parts of the country. At the same time, the Municipal Federation of Trade Unions will launch the second “Beijing Great Craftsmen” selection campaign, and will set up a “craftsman spirit” propaganda group to invite “Beijing Great Craftsmen” to go deep into the workshops and teams of the enterprises and campuses, so as to let the “great craftsmen” use their stories to influence people, educate people and carry forward and pass on the craftsman spirit.
