 Going west along Chang’an Avenue, you can reach Xishi Silo District about 3 km northwest after entering Shougang Beijing Park. The past “Xishi Silo” now has a new name-the site of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics Organizing Committee. These silos and storage bins, which were originally used to store mineral materials, has interpreted the new life and vitality of the industrial remains and has explained the concept of sustainable development and thrift in the running of the Winter Olympics while preserving their original appearance. In 2013, the renovation of Xishi Silo was listed by the National Development and Reform Commission as the first batch of pilot projects for the relocation and renovation of the old industrial zones in the country, it also became the first renovation project in Shougang Beijing Park and the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee was the first unit to enter the building. “Three first aspects” bring the Winter Olympic Organizing Committee and Shougang Park a bright future which is worth looking forward to. “Ice and snow camp” in the name of China accelerates its rise

The original blue-gray clean coal workshop has “been changed into” the palace wall-red Winter Olympic Training Hall; that next to it is the newly built ice hockey training venue. It’ll become the domestic top and even the world-class professional ice hockey venue.

The coal workshop was 300 m long and 60 m wide. It is renovated and “divided” into three training halls for the national team, namely speed skating, figure skating and curling. Now the main body and secondary structure have been built, electrical plumbing equipment has been installed in place, and the appearances of the three stadiums are roughly the same. The palace wall-red concrete hanging plate material is more energy-saving and environmentally-friendly. The triangle window structure with a certain angle is beautiful, as well as easy to collect natural light, and the light will not shoot directly on the ice surface. Inside the contiguous building, the tall roof structure is well-proportioned; and the ground has been laid flat, being ready for the future ice making.

“Four Ice Cubes” of the Winter Olympics is equipped with athletes’ apartments and commercial facilities. On the basis of the spatial structure of the original industrial buildings, the “private engagement” is made for the characteristics of the ice and snow sports and the requirements of the competition and training. In the pursuit of advanced technology and high technical standards, the columns, crane beams, cross bridging and other industrial remains in the factory building will be all preserved according to the original appearance, taking on the unprecedented style of “ice and snow stadium with industrial characteristics”. At present, the heat pipe, waterproof layer, gas layer, and the cooling layer have been laid. It is expected that the top layer of ice will be paved around May this year. In June, the athletes will be able to receive training on the ice in the stadium. Before the end of the year, the ice hockey stadium and the athletes’ apartments will be completed and put into use. In the future, “Four Ice Cubes” of the Winter Olympics in the name of China is also planned to open to the society, provide services to the public, and promote the goal of “three hundred million people on ice and snow”.
