The transformation and development of Shougang is closely related to technological progress and product innovation. After many years of painstaking research and accumulation, Shougang’s new product development and process technology studies have shown a trend of profound accumulation: since 2017, two new products have been launched globally and seven domestically. Home appliances, bridge steel, and wheel steel have the largest domestic market share, automotive plates and electrical steel have the second largest domestic share, and tin plates provide full coverage for high-end users. The high-performance expansion tube PZ801 has been successfully used in domestic oilfields, becoming the first domestic manufacturer to complete the development of low-cost, high-expansion performance casing products.

The physical expansion casing technology is a newly developed innovative technology in the field of oil extraction and is considered as one of the core technologies of the oil drilling industry in the 21st century. Relying on the national support project and the cooperation platform between Beijing University of Science and Technology and Shell, scientists from Shougang Research Institute of Technology and technicians from Shougang Jingtang have explored the special components, intermediate segregation, inclusions, banding, heat treatment and other key control technologies for the high-performance expansion casing steel. The final expansion casing product has special requirements such as easy expansion, high expansion rate (≥20%), high strength after expansion (≥N80) and excellent resistance to collapse. Meanwhile, defects won’t expand in defective expansion.
