The transformation and development of Shougang is closely related to technological progress and product innovation. After many years of painstaking research and accumulation, Shougang’s new product development and process technology studies have shown a trend of profound accumulation: since 2017, two new products have been launched globally and seven domestically. Home appliances, bridge steel, and wheel steel have the largest domestic market share, automotive plates and electrical steel have the second largest domestic share, and tin plates provide full coverage for high-end users. Shougang’s products help the country’s major projects and key projects. This issue of “Five Focus - Monthly Attention” introduces you to Shougang’s two products launched globally and seven domestically. ---by the editor

In order to solve the problems of high galvanizing pollution and high post-maintenance costs in transmission towers, Shougang has been in close communication with the State Grid to develop the paint-free weather-resistant steel SQ420NH for power towers. This material avoids the environmental pollution caused by galvanizing and reduces post-maintenance, and it will be the key promotion product of the State Grid in the future. The common use of weather-resistant steel in transmission towers is bare use. After 3 to 5 years, the rust layer on the steel surface is gradually stable, the corrosion rate is reduced, and the appearance is chocolate color.

SQ420NH developed by Shougang has good economics, which is mainly reflected in two aspects. First, it is reflected in the process of product processing by eliminating the need for galvanizing and saving direct production costs. Second, it can save maintenance costs during the operation of power transmission towers. According to estimates, the costs can be saved by more than 10% by using weather-resistant steel materials.
