On November 3rd 2017, Shougang Co., Ltd again reset a new record in the steelmaking history of the company after furnace 6303 during the service of No.3 converter of the Steelmaking Division of the company, achieving a combined blowing ratio of 100% and a carbon-oxygen product of 0.00188 throughout the full-service life of the converter, and taking the lead in the industry.

The carbon-oxygen product has been reduced from a level above 3 to a level below 2 and then to a level below 2, specifically, from 0.0021 to 0.00195 and then to 0.00188, which represents the flow from leapfrogging development to breakthroughsupon breakthroughs. Since 2014 when technology breakthrough was made in steelmaking by the combined blowing converter, the team of Shougang Co., Ltd has aimed at developing the state-of-the-art technology in the world,persisted in the pursuit of continuous and greaterachievement and breakthroughs Thanks to the team’s diligence, the combined blowing process and technology have been developed rapidly and the quality control has been improved significantly.

The carbon-oxygen product of the converter is an important indicator for evaluating the effect of combined blowing and level of end-point control of the converter. Lower carbon-oxygen product represents lower oxygen content in the molten steel at the same level of end-point carbon control, which is beneficial to reducing alloy consumption and the amount of inclusions generated during the deoxidization process and increasing the purity of molten steel. The new level of carbon-oxygen product of the company’s steelmaking converter is not only a simple breakthrough merely in the data, but also allows for the long-term high-level stability of the overall converter conditions and steady, significant increase in the level of steel smelting and steelmaking.
