According to the unified arrangements of the Beijing Federation of Trade Unions, the trade union of Shougang Group selected and sent three welders, to carry out the Industrial Worker Training Reform Plan for the New Era and enhance the skills and quality of the front-line workers. The selected welders were Mr. Liu Shaopeng and Mr. Guo Zhiwei from Qinhuangdao Shouqin Metal Materials Co., Ltd. and Mr. Wang Hailong from Shougang Jingtang United Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., who were sent to Germany to participate in the Beijing (China)-South Thuringia (Germany) Welding Dual Meeting. They went to Germany with the Beijing Delegation, participated in the event held from August 27 to September 3, 2017, and achieved good results.

  The Beijing (China)-South Thuringia (Germany) Welding Dual Meeting consisted of four competitions: the argon tungsten-arc welding competition, the gas metal arc welding competition, the shielded metal arc welding competition and the gas welding competition. Each competition consisted of a welding theory test and a practical welding operation test. The competitors did their best and the competitions were very intense. Finally, Mr. Liu Shaopeng took second place in the argon tungsten-arc welding competition, Mr. Guo Zhiwei took second place in the shielded metal arc welding competition and Wang Hailong took second place in the gas metal arc welding competition. Mr. Liu Shaopeng was also awarded a special prize for his excellent comprehensive performance and the weldment he made in the competition was collected by a German coach as an exhibit. The three welders from Shougang were awarded internationally-recognized DVS welding certificates by the German Welding Association.

  To ensure that the Chinese competitors can represent the welders of Beijing and that they have mastered advanced welding technology before they compete, some qualification competitions were held and training was conducted for the event. The leaders of Beijing Federation of Trade Unions paid high attention to the event and sent six welders to participate in the qualification competitions. The six welders and over forty welders from the other organizations such as Beijing Gas Group Co., Ltd. participated in the qualification competitions. Mr. Liu Shaopeng, Mr. Guo Zhiwei, Mr. Wang Hailong and seventeen other welders were selected and sent to participate in Beijing-South Thuringia Welding Dual Meet.
