The Steel Plate of Shougang Group Supports the World’s Longest Steel Box Arch Bridge

The main arch of the world’s first highway-railway dual-purpose bridge across the Jinsha River in Yibin, with the railway above and the highway below, was joined recently. The steel structure of the bridge weighs 20,000 tons in total and is exclusively supplied by Shougang Shouqin Metal Materials Co., Ltd.

The bridge boasts unique design and diversified structures. The complex geology imposes a very strict requirement on the steel plate. Shouqin is well-known for its bridge steel at home and abroad. The market share of the high-performance bridge steel ranks first in China. With the most complete varieties, specifications, intensity and grades at home, it is widely used for highway and railway bridges under construction. By virtue of its low-temperature tenacity, ability to be welded, corrosion resistance and safety reliability, it enjoys a great reputation both domestically and globally. With good performance and public praise, Shouqin won the contract of bridge steel for the highway-railway dual-purpose bridge across the Jinsha River in Yibin in October 2015. In accordance with the construction schedule of China Zhongtie Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd., the steel plate is rolled carefully and is produced and delivered weekly to ensure excellent quality.

The highway-railway dual-purpose bridge across the Jinsha River in Yibin is one of the most important channels for Chengdu-Guiyang Railway across the Jinsha River. With a total length of 1,847.9 meters, it is one of the new landmark projects for the development of China’s western region. On average, a highway-railway dual-purpose bridge is characterized by a structure of its highway above its railway. The “inverse” structure of this bridge is due to the geographical locations on both sides of Yibin. After the bridge is completed, it will hit four records: the first highway-railway dual-purpose bridge with the railway above and the highway below in the world; the steel box arch bridge with the world’s widest span of 336 meters; the world’s longest distance between a bridge’s highway and its railway of 32 meters; the first highway-railway dual-purpose steel box arch bridge that combines flexible suspenders of its highway with rigid suspenders of its railway bridge.
