Recently, Shougang Research Institute of Technology and the Automotive Engineering Research Institute of CATARC has co-founded the Automotive Materials Application Technology Laboratory, marking a solid step forward of Shougang in automotive product development with social forces.

CATARC is short for China Automotive Technology & Research Center, the standardization technical committee for automotive industry and the technical support center of the competent authorities. The Automotive Engineering Research Institute is the technical research institute of CATARC, mainly assuming the tasks of automobile-related technical R&D. CATARC is the core organization that provides sophisticated engineering and technical services contributing to improving China's automotive products and technologies. CATARC research institute gathers such superior resources as professionals, achievements and facilities in the field of automotive engineering development, providing high-quality engineering and technical services for the domestic automotive OEMs.

Shougang Group has always attached great importance to the cooperation with social forces in developing automotive products, and adhered to the idea of leveraging social power of science and technology for the development of automotive products and services. Since 2016, it has closely cooperated with CATARC on various aspects including early supplier involvement in new models as well as design and research of lightweight car body, filling its gap in the optimization design of car body structure. Based on good cooperation, Shougang Group and CATARC decided to set up Automotive Materials Application Technology Laboratory. They will conduct further cooperation on the R&D and application technologies of automotive materials, carry out all-round and multi-level cooperation on cost reduction and R&D of new materials and new technology centered on car body weight reduction, continue to expand the scope and areas of EVI cooperation, and thereby further promote technological progress and market competitiveness of both sides.

The Laboratory will be fully leveraged to constantly enhance the influence of both sides in the industry and the competitiveness of Shougang Group in automotive sheet products and EVI technologies. It opens a new chapter for both sides on the cooperation on automotive materials application technology to speed up the process of market launch of the automotive materials. The joint efforts and complementary advantages of both sides will produce remarkable achievements.
