On March 2^nd, 2017, the Beijing Shougang women's basketball team once again created a brilliant moment for Beijing Basketball! In the third round of the 2016-2017 China Women's Basketball League (WCBA) Finals match held at the Shougang Basketball Center, the Beijing Shougang women's basketball team won with a score of 96 to 77, defeated the Bayi Guangbowenju team with a score of 3 to 0, and won the finals championship. This is the second time that the Beijing Shougang women's basketball team has won the finals championship following the 2015-2016 WCBA finals, and the third time that they have won the championship in the WCBA League, the highest level of China's basketball league.

The competition was watched by Beijing Vice Mayor Zhang Jiandong, State Sports General Administration Assistant Director Li Yingchuan, Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau Director Sun Xuecai, New China Basketball Association Chairman Yao Ming and Shougang Corporation leaders Zhang Gongyan, Liang Zongping and Liang Jie.

At the Shougang Basketball Center, an audience of 5,000 shouted “Shougang champion!” In the third round of the WCBA Finals, the members of the Shougang women's basketball team could not contain the joy in their heart, celebrated in the place where they received severe training, hugged their coaches and fellow athletes, and enjoyed their moment of victory in the WCBA finals champion. This season, the Shougang women's basketball team entered the playoffs at the No. 1 position in the regular season. In the quarterfinals, they defeated the Shanxi team with a score of 2 to 0; in the semi-finals, they defeated the Xinjiang team with a score of 3 to 0; and in the finals, still unstoppable, they defeated the Bayi team with a score of 3 to 0 to win the WCBA Championship in the 2016-2017 season.

At the subsequent ceremony, Zhang Jiandong and Li Yingchuan awarded the Beijing Shougang women's basketball team with the 2016-2017 season WCBA Championship trophy, and Sun Xuecai and Yao Ming awarded the players with medals. Fowles of the Shougang women's basketball team won the MVP trophy for the final game.
