Recently, at a meeting of the Committee for Ecological Civilization Construction of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, the Shougang Group’s Safety and Environmental Protection Department was rated as the “First Advanced Collective of Ecological Civilization Construction in the Capital”, representing the full affirmation of the Shougang Group’s ecological civilization.

In recent years, guided by the unified planning for ecological civilization construction carried out by the Party Committee, the Safety and Environmental Protection Department has organized and led all units to thoroughly implement Xi Jinping’s thought on ecological civilization, the concept that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”, and the requirements for ecological civilization construction of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and Government, continuously improve its political stance and continuously promote and strengthen environmental protection and professional management by implementing the “Green Action Plan”. As a result, the Shougang’s green development capacity has been systematically improved. 

The Safety and Environmental Protection Department has promoted the transformation toward ultra-low emissions in the steel industry in an orderly manner. On the basis of Shougang Qian’an becoming the first domestic iron and steel enterprise with ultra-low emissions throughout the whole process, Jingtang and Changzhi Steel were organized to implement the strategy of precise pollution control and complete ultra-low emission transformation in a “one strategy for one factory” manner according to the work schedule specified by the local government. At present, 3/4 of the Group’s steel production capacity has achieved ultra-low emissions, giving Shougang a leading role in the industry.

The Safety and Environmental Protection Department vigorously promoted the ecological restoration of Shougang Park. According to the development schedule, it organized and carried out the investigation of contaminated sites, soil remediation & treatment and ecological restoration in the Park, established a hierarchical classified management system for the treatment of contaminated soil in the old industrial zone, explored a new management mode for soil contamination remediation in the steel industrial park, standardized the treatment procedures of contaminated land parcels, improved the restoration effects and completed the ecological environment restoration in Shougang Park with high quality, thereby making positive contributions to creating a new landmark in the revival of the capital city in the new era, and improving the quality of its surroundings. The environmental quality of the park has been continuously improved, providing positive support for the green and low-carbon Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. 

The Safety and Environmental Protection Department has comprehensively standardized and strengthened its daily professional management. It has established and improved the management system, defined management responsibilities at all levels, continuously carried out inspections by “visiting grassroots units and sites without prior notice, reporting, escort or reception”, and promptly eliminated all kinds of potential environmental hazards. It has actively practiced standardized site management and strictly implemented the rule of “six 100%s at the construction site”. It has increased the warning and control of heavy air pollution, implemented air quality assurance measures, formed a multi-level plan system and built a management mechanism of unified deployment and coordinated scheduling. In these ways, it has ensured the quality of the ecological environment during heavy air pollution periods, important periods and major events, and helped fight the battle against pollution, for which it has been praised by its superior departments many times.
