In the afternoon of August 26, the International Olympic Committee President Bach visited the selection site of Shougang veneer platform and Shougang office park of Beijing Winter Olympic Committee.

Zhang Jiandong, Vice mayor of Beijing, Executive Vice Chairman of the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee, Yu Zaiqing, Vice Chairman of the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee Han Zirong, Secretary-General of the Beijing Winter Olympic Committee and Wang Shizhong, Deputy General Manager of Shougang Group, accompanied the visit.

President Bach showed great interest in the planning of the veneer jumping platform project program. He travelled and viewed the landscape along the corridor of Qunming Lake, and listened to the report of design plans of Shougang Beijing Park and the veneer jumping platform presented by the Head of the Planning and Development Department of the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee, and posed questions about design to the staff. When he saw the vivid flowers and birds on the top of the corridor, he nodded and praised.

At the end of the corridor, Bach stood beside the Qunming lake with its beautiful environment, looked at four high cooling towers and distant mountains at the selection site of the veneer jumping platform, and was very pleased to take pictures with everyone.

According to the introduction presented by the Head of the Planning and Development Department of the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee, the venue and surrounding facilities will be fully utilized after the Winter Olympics if the International Olympic Committee agreed with this program, including holding regular domestic and foreign large-scale sports events, serving as training venues for professional athletes and sports teams, and iconic Winter Olympic tourist attractions and public leisure fitness venues. In addition, the Winter Training Center training base of General Administration of Sport of China near the veneer jumping platform will be used for national team training.

Subsequently, Bach and his party came to the Shougang office park of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, and visited the renovated Xishi Winter Olympics Plaza and office area that is reconstructed from a warehouse. The buildings here have retained the original architectural features, combined with industrial relics and modern elements, sketched out the picture that integrates history and modern elements, and exude a unique cultural charm under the sunshine.

Bach called the Shougang Industrial Park's protective transformation a great idea, which has transformed an old plant, blast furnace and other industrial buildings into sports and leisure facilities and a museum, which will remind people of the history of Shougang Group, Beijing and China. It is an exciting practice. He said that it is an advanced concept in the world and also an excellent demonstration of when the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee chose to work on the Shougang Park office to rejuvenate old industrial relics and construct landmark buildings on the industrial site.

It is understood that Bach came to China for three days starting from August 25, and that he had visited Alibaba Group, Wukesong Sports Center. On August 27, Bach went to Tianjin and attended the opening ceremony of the 13th National Games.
